Dowry Creek Marina in Belhaven to Coinjock, NC

Pungo River Alligator River Canal

Good Karma took the lead today; very soon after leaving Dowry Creek we entered the Pungo River - Alligator River Canal, joining the two rivers.

Pretty country but the canal is over 21 nautical miles, and when it’s done, the crew is glad!

Alligator River

Looks like an old time sailing ship, but is smaller.

Alligator River Bridge

Seas became rough, and the Albermarle Sound, not unlike the Neuse River, lived up to its reputation.

There are many of these mile markers on the ICW, starting in Portsmouth VA at mile marker 0, going all the way to Key West.  This marker is just south of Coinjock, NC and means One September is only 50 miles from Norfolk-Portsmouth, plus another roughly 24 to our home port at the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club.  Our adventure is almost over.

Approaching Coinjock Marina.

Coinjock to Porthsmouth

Good Karma doesn’t look so big!

Nice looking old home in Coinjock.

Currituck crabber

Currituck Sound-not too rough today.

Leaving Currituck Sound, entering the Pungo River.

North Landing Bridge

Captain George’s Seafood restaurant was a huge place, but now there is only the sign.

Centerville Bridge had several boats going in each direction.

The canal leading north to Great Bridge, then towards Norfolk.

Great Bridge Bridge

Atlantic Yacht Basin just south of the Great Bridge Bridge and Great Bridge Lock.
